Farmer's market finds

It's FINALLY becoming fall, my favorite season! Which makes me want to cook again (Who can stand it when the weather is above 90 degrees?). With my move comes the challenge of turning out something delicious in the tiny kitchen with its baby oven, and I am ready for it. There is a farmers market in Johnson City on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from which I procured some beautiful mottled pink runner beans, fat turnips for roasting, okra to feed my addiction, and a little pumpkin so full of possibility as to make me indecisive.

While I do have a tendency to be bowled over by the produce, the market also offers crafts, sweets, artisan bread, and even a booth that sells homemade casseroles to take home and heat up. The most popular vendor was a stand of Mennonites making huge donuts fresh to order. The line, at one point, takes almost an hour to get through. It is well worth it- these guys even have their own entry on UrbanSpoon despite only being available as market vendors. It's a nice little sugar rush while you're enjoying some outdoor shopping. The only improvement would be some sort of beverage other than the homemade lemonade. I think I'm going to have to come prepared with a mug of coffee next time.
